1983 - 2010

We are sorry to announce the loss of Officer Paul Mercer.

Paul passed away on June 21, 2010.  He was just 27 years old.  Officer Mercer, a resident of Knightdale, North Carolina, was with the Raleigh Police Department.

Paul grew up in Newaygo, Michigan.  He earned a Bachelor's Degree from Ferris State University which is in Big Rapids, Michigan.

After graduation, Paul worked for the Grand Rapids Police department.  It was at this point he met his wife, Michelle.  From there he was offered a job with the Raleigh Police Department.  Michelle and Paul had two children, Lucy and Max.

Paul grew up in a police orientated family.  His father, Sheriff Michael Mercer of Newaygo, Michigan, has been a Police Officer for 35 years.  Back in 2008, Sheriff Mercer donated his time toward a fellow brother, and went to New Orleans with Cops Helping Cops and built Sgt. Jay Vitrano a new home.  Sgt. Vitrano's home was destroyed by hurricane Katrina.  The entire build was documented and filmed by America's Most Wanted.

We do ask that the families privacy be respected.  However, the family was helped a great deal by a non-profit called "The Thin Blue Line".  If you would like to show your support for Paul and his family please make a donation to the Thin Blue Line by clicking the link below.  We do ask that all donations go to this charity for Paul as they were the one's that assisted his family.
